유전자 개요

EP300 유전자는 아데노바이러스 E1A와 관련된 세포 p300 전사 보조활성 단백질을 지정한다. 이 단백질은 염색질 리모델링을 통해 전사를 조절하는 히스톤 아세틸전이효소(histone acetyltransferase)로 기능하며, 세포 증식 및 분화 과정에 중요하다. 인산화된 CREB 단백질에 특이적으로 결합하여 cAMP-유전자 조절을 매개한다. 또한, EP300은 HIF1A(hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha)의 보조활성인자로도 확인되었으며, VEGF와 같은 저산소증 유발 유전자의 자극에 역할을 한다. 이 유전자의 결함은 루빈스타인-테이비 증후군(Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome)의 원인이 되며, 상피 암(epithelial cancer)에도 관여할 수 있다.
