유전자 개요
이 단백질은 진핵 세포 번역 개시 인자 4F 복합체의 구성 요소로, 메신저 RNA(mRNA)의 5’ 말단에 있는 7-메틸구아노신 캡 구조를 인식한다. 암호화된 단백질은 리보솜을 5’-캡 구조로 모집하여 번역 개시에 도움을 준다. 이 단백질과 4F 복합체의 연관은 번역 개시에서 속도 결정 단계이다. 이 유전자는 원종양유전자(proto-oncogene) 역할을 하며, 그 발현과 활성화는 세포 형질전환 및 종양 형성과 관련이 있다. 이 유전자의 여러 위유전자(pseudogene)가 다른 염색체에서 발견된다. 대안적 스플라이싱은 여러 전사 변이를 일으킨다.
