이 유전자는 두 개의 표피 성장 인자 유사 도메인(epidermal growth factor-like domains)을 포함하는 분비성 내피 세포 단백질을 암호화한다. 암호화된 단백질은 혈관 생성(vasculogenesis) 조절에 관여할 수 있다. 이 단백질은 종양(tumor) 세포의 성장 및 증식에 관여할 수 있다. 대체 스플라이싱(Alternate splicing)은 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)를 생성한다.
