유전자 개요
EFEMP1 유전자는 세포외 기질 당단백질(glycoprotein)인 피불린(fibulin) 계열의 구성원을 암호화한다. 이 계열의 모든 구성원과 마찬가지로, 이 유전자가 지정하는 단백질은 연속된 표피 성장 인자(epidermal growth factor)-유사 반복과 C-말단 피불린형 도메인을 포함한다. 이 유전자는 악성 교종(malignant glioma)에서 상향 조절되며, 이러한 종양의 공격적인 특성에 관여할 수 있다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 Doyne 벌집 망막이영양증(Doyne honeycomb retinal dystrophy)과 관련이 있다. 동일하게 번역되는 대안적 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체들이 기술되었다.
