유전자 개요
이 유전자는 연골내 골 형성, 혈관신생 및 종양(tumor) 생물학에 관여하는 수용성 단백질을 암호화한다. 또한 다양한 세포외 단백질 및 구조 단백질과 상호작용하여 피부 완전성과 항상성 유지에 기여한다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 피부, 점막 및 특정 내장의 전반적인 비후를 특징으로 하는 지방단백질증(lipoid proteinosis disorder, 또는 hyalinosis cutis et mucosae 또는 Urbach-Wiethe disease로 알려짐)과 관련이 있다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 대체 접합 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)가 보고되었다.
