유전자 개요
이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 이중 특이성 단백질 인산가수분해효소(dual specificity protein phosphatase) 서브패밀리(subfamily)에 속한다. 이들 인산가수분해효소는 인산세린/트레오닌 및 인산티로신 잔기를 모두 탈인산화하여 표적 키나아제(kinase)를 불활성화시킨다. 이들은 세포 증식 및 분화와 관련된 mitogen-activated protein (MAP) 키나아제 초과군(MAPK/ERK, SAPK/JNK, p38)의 활성을 음성적으로 조절한다. 이 유전자 산물은 ERK1을 불활성화하며, 췌장과 뇌에서 가장 높은 수준으로 다양한 조직에 발현되고 세포핵에 국소화된다.
