이 유전자는 후-프롤린 절단 아미노펩티다아제(post-proline cleaving aminopeptidase)인 단백질을 암호화하며, 이는 휴지기 림프구에서 발현된다. 휴지 상태의 림프구는 세포자멸사(apoptosis) 억제를 통해 유지되는데, 이 새로운 세린 단백질분해효소(serine protease)의 억제는 이러한 상태를 교란시킨다. 이 효소는 프롤릴카르복시펩티다아제(prolylcarboxypeptidase)와 강한 서열 유사성을 보이며, 산성 및 중성 pH 모두에서 활성을 나타낸다.
