이 유전자는 세린/트레오닌 단백질 키나아제(serine/threonine protein kinase) 계열의 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 N-말단 단백질 키나아제 도메인과 함께, 세포자멸사(apoptosis)의 양성 조절 인자인 사멸 연관 단백질 키나아제 1(DAPK1)과 상당한 유사성을 보이는 칼슘-칼모듈린 의존성 결합 도메인을 포함한다. 이 유전자의 과발현은 세포 세포자멸사(apoptosis)를 유도하는 것으로 나타났다. 이 유전자는 여러 개의 폴리아데닐화 부위를 사용한다.
