유전자 개요
이 유전자는 사이토크롬 P450 (cytochrome P450) 효소 계열에 속하는 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 사이토크롬 P450 단백질은 약물 대사, 콜레스테롤, 스테로이드 및 기타 지질의 합성에 관여하는 여러 반응을 촉매하는 모노옥시게나제(monooxygenase)이다. 이 미토콘드리아 단백질은 1,25-디하이드록시비타민 D3의 측쇄를 하이드록실화(hydroxylation)하여 해당 비타민 D3의 생리활성 형태의 분해를 시작한다. 비타민 D3 수치를 조절함으로써 이 효소는 칼슘 항상성 및 비타민 D 내분비계에서 역할을 수행한다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 대안적 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체(alternatively spliced transcript variants)가 발견되었다.
