유전자 개요
이 유전자는 사이토크롬 P450 (cytochrome P450) 계열 효소의 구성원을 암호화한다. 이 사이토크롬 P450 단백질들은 약물 대사, 콜레스테롤, 스테로이드 및 기타 지질 합성에 관여하는 많은 반응을 촉매하는 모노옥시게나아제(monooxygenase)이다. CYP1A2 유전자가 지정하는 단백질은 소포체(endoplasmic reticulum)에 위치하며, 담배 연기에서 발견되는 일부 다환 방향족 탄화수소(polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PAHs)에 의해 발현이 유도된다. 이 효소의 내인성 기질(substrate)은 알려져 있지 않으나, 일부 PAHs를 발암성 중간체로 대사할 수 있다. 이 효소에 대한 다른 외인성 기질(xenobiotic substrate)로는 카페인, 아플라톡신 B1, 아세트아미노펜이 있다.
