CTTN 유전자는 유방암 및 두경부 편평세포암종에서 과발현됩니다. 이 유전자가 지정하는 단백질은 세포질과 세포-기질 접촉 부위에 국소화됩니다. 이 단백질은 접착성 접합체(adherens-type junctions) 구성 요소 간의 상호작용을 조절하고 상피 및 암종 세포의 세포골격과 세포 부착 구조를 조직하는 두 가지 역할을 합니다. 세포자멸사(apoptosis) 동안, 이 단백질은 카스파제(caspase) 의존적으로 분해됩니다. 이 유전자의 비정상적인 조절은 종양 세포의 침윤 및 전이에 기여합니다. 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 지정하는 세 개의 스플라이스 변이체(splice variant)가 이 유전자에 대해 확인되었습니다.
