이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 리소좀 단백질의 전반적인 분해에 중요한 리소좀 시스테인 프로테이나아제(lysosomal cysteine proteinase)입니다. 이 단백질은 이황화 결합된 무거운 사슬과 가벼운 사슬의 이합체(dimer)로 구성되며, 이 두 사슬은 단일 단백질 전구체로부터 모두 생성됩니다. 펩티다아제 C1 단백질 계열에 속하는 이 암호화 단백질은 아미노펩티다아제(aminopeptidase)와 엔도펩티다아제(endopeptidase)로 모두 작용할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자의 발현 증가는 전립선 종양의 악성(malignant) 진행과 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났습니다. 이 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱(alternate splicing)은 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 여러 전사 변이체를 생성합니다.
