CTBP2는 대체 전사체(alternative transcripts)를 통해 서로 다른 두 단백질을 암호화하며, 하나는 전사 억제인자(transcriptional repressor)이고 다른 아이소폼(isoform)은 시냅스 리본(synaptic ribbons)이라 불리는 특수 시냅스의 주요 구성 요소이다. 두 단백질 모두 NAD+ 의존성 2-하이드록시산 탈수소효소(NAD+-dependent 2-hydroxyacid dehydrogenases)와 유사한 NAD+ 결합 도메인(NAD+ binding domain)을 지닌다.
