유전자 개요
COL1A1은 I형 콜라겐(type I collagen)의 프로-알파1 사슬(pro-alpha1 chains)을 암호화하며, 이 콜라겐의 삼중 나선은 두 개의 알파1 사슬과 하나의 알파2 사슬로 구성된다. I형 콜라겐은 대부분의 결합조직(connective tissue)에 존재하는 섬유 형성 콜라겐(fibril-forming collagen)으로 뼈, 각막, 진피, 힘줄에 풍부하며, COL1A1의 돌연변이는 골형성부전증(osteogenesis imperfecta) I~IV형, 엘러스-단로스 증후군(Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) VIIA형 및 고전형, 카페이병(Caffey disease), 특발성 골다공증(idiopathic osteoporosis)과 연관된다. 또한 17번과 22번 염색체 사이의 상호 전좌(reciprocal translocation)는 성장 인자의 조절되지 않은 발현을 유발하여 융기성 피부섬유육종(dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans)이라는 피부 종양과 관련된다.
