유전자 개요
이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 면역글로불린(immunoglobulin) 계열에 속한다. 세포 부착 분자(cell adhesion molecule)로 기능하는, 글라이코실포스파티딜이노시톨(glycosylphosphatidylinositol, GPI)-부착 신경 세포 막(membrane) 단백질이다. 이 단백질은 발달 중인 신경계에서 축삭 연결 형성에 관여할 수 있다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 여러 대체 스플라이싱 전사 변이체(alternatively spliced transcript variant)가 발견되었다.
