이 유전자는 제2형 막 단백질인 C형 렉틴 유사 단백질(C-type lectin-like protein)을 암호화하며, 이는 수지상 세포와 B 세포에서 높게 발현된다. 이 단백질은 인터루킨-4(interleukin-4) 생성을 촉진하는 T 세포 공동 자극 분자(T-cell costimulatory molecule)로 작용하여 면역 반응 조절에 관여할 수 있다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체(alternatively spliced transcript variants)가 발견되었다.
