유전자 개요
이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 클라우딘(claudin) 계열에 속한다. 클라우딘은 상피세포의 치밀결합(tight junction)을 구성하는 막 단백질로, 세포 사이 공간을 통한 용질 및 이온 이동을 조절한다. 이 단백질은 Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin (CPE)에 대한 고친화성 수용체이며, 출생 전후의 내부 장기 발달 및 기능에 관여할 수 있다. 윌리암스-베렌 증후군(Williams-Beuren syndrome) 환자에게서 이 유전자가 결실되어 있다.
