CJUN은 조류 육종 바이러스 17(avian sarcoma virus 17)의 추정 형질전환 유전자(putative transforming gene)로, 해당 바이러스 단백질과 매우 유사한 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 특정 표적 DNA 서열과 직접 결합하여 유전자 발현을 조절한다. CJUN은 인트론이 없으며, 인간 악성종양에서 전좌(translocation)와 결실(deletion)이 모두 일어나는 염색체 영역인 1p32-p31에 위치한다.
