신경 뉴런 아세틸콜린 수용체는 동종 또는 이종의 알파와 베타 소단위체로 구성된 5량체 복합체입니다. 이 수용체는 리간드(ligand)-개폐성 이온 통로(ligand-gated ion channel) 슈퍼패밀리(superfamily)으로, 아세틸콜린 및 니코틴과 같은 리간드에 반응하여 세포막(plasma membrane)을 통한 나트륨과 칼륨의 흐름을 허용합니다. 이 유전자는 여러 베타 소단위체 중 하나를 지정합니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 상염색체 우성 야간 전두엽 간질과 관련이 있습니다.
