CHRM2 유전자는 G 단백질 연결 수용체(G protein-coupled receptors) 계열에 속하는 무스카린성 콜린성 수용체를 지정한다. 이 수용체들은 아세틸콜린과의 결합을 통해 다양한 세포 반응을 매개하며, 아데닐레이트 사이클레이즈 억제, 포스포이노시타이드 분해, 칼륨 채널 매개 등이 포함된다. 무스카린성 수용체는 중추 및 말초 신경계에서 아세틸콜린의 여러 작용에 영향을 미친다. CHRM2는 서맥과 심장 수축력 감소의 매개와 관련이 있다. 이 유전자에 대해 여러 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체가 보고되었다.
