CEBPA 유전자는 CCAAT 서열을 인식하는 기본 류신 지퍼 (basic leucine zipper, bZIP) 도메인을 가진 전사인자를 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 동종이량체(homodimers) 또는 CCAAT/인핸서-결합 단백질 베타(CCAAT/enhancer-binding proteins beta) 및 감마(gamma)와 이종이량체(heterodimers)로 기능한다. 이러한 단백질의 활성은 세포 주기 조절 및 체중 항상성 관련 유전자 발현을 조절할 수 있다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 급성 골수성 백혈병과 관련이 있다.
