유전자 개요

이 단백질은 포스파타아제(phosphatase) 계열에 속한다. 세포 주기의 G1기에서 S기로의 진행에 필요하며, 두 개의 인산기(phosphate group)를 제거하여 사이클린 의존성 키나아제(cyclin-dependent kinase)인 CDC2를 활성화한다. DNA 손상 시 특이적으로 분해되어 염색체 이상이 있는 세포가 세포 분열을 진행하는 것을 막는다. CDC25A는 종양 유전자(oncogene)로 알려져 있으나, 종양 발생에서의 정확한 역할은 아직 밝혀지지 않았다. 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 두 개의 전사 변이체(transcript variant)가 이 유전자에서 발견되었다.
