이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 효모 Cdc23 단백질과 높은 유사성을 공유하며, 이는 세포 주기 중 G2/M 전이에 필수적이다. 이 단백질은 8개의 단백질 소단위체로 구성되고 진핵 세포에 널리 보존된 분열촉진복합체(anaphase-promoting complex, APC)의 구성 성분이다. APC는 B형 사이클린의 유비퀴틴 매개 프로테올리시스(proteolysis)를 담당하는 사이클린 B-유비퀴틴 접합체 형성을 촉매한다. 이 단백질과 APC 복합체의 다른 3개 구성원은 단백질-단백질 상호작용에 중요한 단백질 도메인인 TPR(tetratricopeptide repeat)을 포함한다.
