CD6는 T 림프구(T-lymphocyte)와 일부 다른 면역세포의 외막에 존재하는 단백질을 암호화하며, 이 단백질은 세 개의 스캐빈저 수용체 시스테인 풍부(scavenger receptor cysteine-rich, SRCR) 도메인과 활성화 백혈구 세포부착분자(activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule)에 대한 결합 부위를 포함한다. 이 단백질 산물은 T 세포 활성화의 지속에 중요한 역할을 하며, 해당 유전자는 다발성 경화증(multiple sclerosis) 감수성과 연관될 가능성이 제기되어 왔다. 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 여러 전사체 변이(transcript variant)가 확인되었다.
