이 유전자는 면역글로불린(immunoglobulin) 계열 단백질을 지정한다. 암호화된 단백질은 T 림프구(T lymphocyte)의 CD2 단백질에 대한 리간드(ligand)로 작용하며, T 림프구의 부착 및 활성화에 관여한다. 이 단백질은 세포막(plasma membrane)에 위치한다. 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체들이 보고된 바 있다.
