CD47은 세포가 세포외 기질(extracellular matrix)에 부착될 때 일어나는 세포내 칼슘 농도 증가에 관여하는 막 단백질(membrane protein)을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 트롬보스폰딘(thrombospondin)의 C-말단 세포 결합 도메인에 대한 수용체로도 작용하며, 막 수송과 신호 전달에 관여할 가능성이 있다. CD47은 조직 전반에 넓게 분포하지만 Rh 적혈구에서는 발현이 감소하며, 대체 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)을 통한 전사체 변이들이 확인되었다.
