이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 TNF 수용체 슈퍼패밀리(superfamily)의 구성원입니다. 이 수용체는 활성화된 T세포와 B세포에서 발현되며, 휴지기 세포에서는 발현되지 않습니다. TRAF2와 TRAF5가 이 수용체와 상호작용하여 NF-kappaB 활성화를 유도하는 신호 전달을 매개할 수 있습니다. 이 수용체는 세포자멸사의 양성 조절 인자이며, 자가 반응성 CD8 효과 T세포의 증식 잠재력을 제한하고 자가면역으로부터 신체를 보호하는 것으로 나타났습니다. 이 유전자에 대한 두 개의 대체 스플라이스 전사체 변이체가 서로 다른 이성질체를 암호화하는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
