유전자 개요

CD24는 성숙 과립구(granulocyte)와 B 세포(B cell)에서 발현되는 시알로당단백질(sialoglycoprotein)을 암호화하며, 이들 세포의 성장 및 분화 신호를 조절한다. 전구체 단백질은 32개 아미노산으로 이루어진 짧은 성숙 펩타이드(peptide)로 절단된 뒤 글리코실포스파티딜이노시톨(glycosylphosphatidylinositol, GPI) 결합을 통해 세포 표면에 고정된다. 이 유전자는 이전 유전체 조립본에서는 누락되었으나 6번 염색체에 정확히 위치하며, 1·15·20·Y번 염색체에는 전사되지 않는 위유전자(pseudogene)가 지정되어 있고 대체 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)으로 여러 전사체 변이가 생성된다.
