이 유전자는 NK 세포, 혈소판, 단핵구 및 일부 T 세포 표면에 발현되는 당단백질(glycoprotein)을 지정합니다. 이 단백질은 V-set의 Ig-유사 도메인 2개를 포함하는 Ig-슈퍼패밀리(superfamily) 구성원입니다. 또한, 혈소판 및 거핵구 세포가 혈관 내피세포에 부착되는 세포 부착을 매개하며, 거핵구 세포 성숙에도 관여합니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 전사 변이체가 생성됩니다.
