CD22는 CD4 수용체(receptor) 결합 활성, 단백질 인산가수분해효소(protein phosphatase) 결합 활성, 시알산(sialic acid) 결합 활성을 가질 것으로 예측된다. B 세포(B cell) 활성화와 B 세포 수용체 신호전달 경로의 음성 조절, 세포내이입(endocytosis) 조절에 관여하며, 초기 엔도솜(early endosome)과 재순환 엔도솜(recycling endosome)에 위치한다. 미만성 거대 B 세포 림프종(diffuse large B-cell lymphoma)과의 연관성이 제시된다.
