이 유전자는 세포막 당단백질인 CD1 계열의 변이형 구성원을 암호화합니다. 이들은 주요 조직 적합 복합체(MHC) 단백질과 구조적으로 관련이 있으며 베타-2-마이크로글로불린과 이종이합체를 형성합니다. CD1 단백질은 주로 자가 또는 미생물 유래의 지질 및 당지질 항원을 T세포에 제시하는 역할을 합니다. 이 유전자에서 생성된 단백질은 세포질 꼬리의 티로신 기반 모티프를 통해 후기 엔도솜과 리소좀에 위치합니다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 두 개의 전사 변이체가 발견되었습니다.
