유전자 개요
이 유전자는 염색체 7번 장완에 군집해 있는 두 개의 Cys-Cys(CC) 사이토카인(cytokine) 유전자 중 하나이다. CC 사이토카인은 두 개의 인접한 시스테인(cysteine)으로 특징지어지는 단백질이다. 이 유전자가 암호화하는 사이토카인은 정상적인 말초혈액 호산구(eosinophil)와 호염기구에 대한 화학주성(chemotactic) 활성을 나타낸다. 이 단백질은 또한 항균(antibacterial) 활성을 가지며, S. pneumoniae, S. aureus, Non-typeable H. influenzae, P. aeruginosa에 대한 항균 효과를 보인다. 이 유전자의 산물은 케모카인 수용체(chemokine receptor) CCR3를 특이적으로 활성화하는 세 가지 관련 케모카인(chemokine) 중 하나이다. 이 케모카인은 아토피 질환에서 호산구 축적에 기여할 수 있다.
