유전자 개요

CAPN2는 보편적으로 발현되는 칼슘 활성화 중성 프로테아제(calcium-activated neutral protease)인 칼페인 2(calpain 2)의 큰 촉매 소단위를 암호화한다. 칼페인은 비리소좀성 세포내 시스테인 프로테아제(cysteine protease)로, 포유류에서는 보편형·위 특이형·근육 특이형이 존재하며, 보편형 효소는 서로 다른 큰 촉매 소단위가 공통의 작은 조절 소단위와 결합한 이종이량체(heterodimer) 형태를 이룬다. 5’ UTR에는 여러 이질적 전사 시작 부위가 보고되었고, 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사체 변이가 확인되었다.
