CAPG는 겔솔린/빌린(gelsolin/villin) 액틴(actin) 조절 단백질 족의 일원을 암호화한다. 이 유전자에 의해 암호화된 단백질은 Ca2+와 포스파이노시타이드(phosphoinositide)에 의해 조절되는 방식으로 F-액틴(F-actin) 필라멘트(filament)의 뾰족한 말단(barbed end)을 가역적으로 차단하지만, 기존 액틴 필라멘트를 절단하지는 않는다. 또한 이 단백질은 액틴 필라멘트의 뾰족한 말단을 가리킴으로써 비근육 세포(non-muscle cell)에서 액틴 기반 운동성(actin-based motility)을 조절하는 데 기여하며, 이 유전자에서는 선택적 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)을 거친 전사 변이체(transcript variant)가 보고되었다.
