유전자 개요
이 유전자는 보체계(complement system)의 최종 구성 요소를 암호화합니다. 보체계는 상처 치유, 면역 반응, 염증 등 다양한 생리적 과정에 관여하는 단백질들의 연쇄 반응입니다. 이 유전자는 막 공격 복합체(Membrane Attack Complex, MAC) 형성에 참여하며, MAC은 세균의 막에 조립되어 구멍을 형성함으로써 세균 막 구조를 파괴합니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 보체 C9 결핍증을 유발합니다.
