유전자 개요
이 유전자는 약 60개의 아미노산으로 이루어진 짧은 연속 반복 서열로 주로 구성된 단백질 슈퍼패밀리(superfamily)의 구성원을 암호화한다. 고유한 하나의 베타 사슬과 함께, 이 유전자에 의해 암호화된 7개의 동일한 알파 사슬은 C4b 결합 단백질의 주된 아이소폼(isoform)으로 조립된다. 이 복합체 단백질은 고전적 경로를 통해 보체 캐스케이드(complement cascade) 활성화를 조절한다. 알파 및 베타 사슬 모두를 암호화하는 유전자들은 보체 활성화 조절 유전자 클러스터(regulator of complement activation gene cluster) 내 인간 염색체 1번 상에 서로 인접해 위치한다. 이 유전자의 두 개의 유사 위유전자(pseudogene) 또한 클러스터에서 발견된다.
