이 유전자는 세포 사멸 억제 단백질을 암호화하며, 종양 괴사 인자-수용체-1(tumor necrosis factor-receptor-1)과 상호작용하는 사멸 수용체(death receptor)-연관 단백질이다. 이 단백질은 BRCA1-A 복합체 및 BRISC 복합체를 포함한 여러 단백질 복합체에서 어댑터 역할을 한다. BRCA1-A 복합체는 유비퀴틴화효소(ubiquitinase) 활성을 가지며 이중 가닥 DNA 손상 부위를 표적으로 삼는다. 반면 BRISC 복합체는 탈유비퀴틴화효소(deubiquitinase) 활성을 나타내며 유사분열 방추 조립에 관여한다. 이 유전자는 여러 종류의 암에서 상향 조절된다.
