유전자 개요
BMP6 유전자는 TGF-베타(transforming growth factor-beta) 단백질 슈퍼패밀리(superfamily)의 분비형 리간드(ligand)를 암호화한다. 이 단백질 계열의 리간드는 다양한 TGF-베타 수용체에 결합하여 SMAD 단백질 계열 전사 인자(transcription factor)의 모집 및 활성화를 유도하며, 이는 유전자 발현을 조절한다. BMP6 단백질은 철 항상성, 지방 및 뼈 발달, 배란을 포함한 광범위한 생물학적 과정을 조절한다. 이 유전자의 발현 차이는 유방암 및 전립선암(prostate cancer) 진행과 관련될 수 있다.
