이 유전자는 중추신경계에 특이적으로 발현되는 콘드로이틴 설페이트 프로테오글리칸(chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans) 계열 렉티칸(lectican) 패밀리의 구성원을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 발생 과정에서 조절되며, 뇌의 세포외 기질 형성에 기능할 수 있다. 뇌 종양(brain tumor) 세포의 성장과 세포 이동성을 촉진할 수 있으며, 교종(gliomas)에서 높게 발현된다. 대립유전자 변형은 여러 전사체 변이를 초래한다.
