유전자 개요
이 단백질은 BCL2 단백질 계열에 속한다. BCL2 계열 구성원은 올리고머 또는 이량체(heterodimer)를 형성하여 세포자멸사(apoptosis) 조절자로서 항세포자멸사 또는 촉진세포자멸사 기능을 하며 다양한 세포 활동에 관여한다. 이 단백질은 미토콘드리아에 위치하며 세포자멸사를 유도하는 역할을 한다. 또한, 막 전위 손실 및 사이토크롬 c 방출을 유발하는 미토콘드리아 전압 의존성 음이온 채널(mitochondrial voltage-dependent anion channel)의 개방을 가속화하고 상호작용한다. 세포 스트레스 노출 후에는 종양 억제 단백질(tumor suppressor) P53과도 상호작용한다.
