BAG2 유전자는 Hsc70/Hsp70 ATPase 도메인에 결합하는 Hip과의 경쟁을 통해 기질 방출을 촉진하는 BAG 단백질을 지정합니다. 이 유전자가 지정하는 BAG2 단백질은 약 211개의 아미노산을 포함하며, BAG1, BAG2, BAG3의 BAG 도메인은 시험관 내 및 포유류 세포에서 Hsc70 ATPase 도메인과 특이적으로 상호작용합니다. 또한, 이 단백질들은 Hsc70의 ATPase 도메인에 높은 친화도로 결합하여 Hip에 의해 억제되는 방식으로 그 샤페론 활성을 저해합니다.
