BABAM2는 종양 괴사 인자(tumor necrosis factor)-수용체-1과 상호작용하는 세포사멸 억제성 사멸 수용체(death receptor) 관련 단백질을 암호화한다. 암호화된 단백질은 BRCA1-A 복합체(complex)와 BRISC 복합체(complex) 등 여러 단백질 복합체에서 어댑터(adapter) 역할을 하며, BRCA1-A 복합체는 이중가닥 DNA(double strand DNA) 절단 부위를 표적으로 하는 유비퀴틴화효소(ubiquitinase) 활성을, BRISC 복합체는 유사분열 방추체(mitotic spindle) 조립에 관여하는 탈유비퀴틴화효소(deubiquitinase) 활성을 보인다. 이 유전자는 여러 종류의 암(cancer)에서 상향조절된다.
