이 유전자는 활성 신호 코인테그레이터 1 (ASC-1) 복합체의 소단위체를 암호화한다. ASC-1 복합체는 활성 단백질 1 (AP-1), NF-kB, 혈청 반응 인자 (SRF)를 포함한 다수의 전사 인자에 의한 유전자 전사 활성화에 중요한 역할을 하는 전사 보조활성인자이다. 암호화된 단백질은 ASC-1 복합체에 의한 AP-1 전사 활성화에 필요한 N-말단 KH형 RNA-결합 모티프를 포함한다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 바렛 식도 및 식도 선암과 관련이 있다. 여러 아이소폼을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체들이 이 유전자에서 관찰되었다.
