아레스틴/베타-아레스틴 단백질 계열 구성원은 G단백질 연결 수용체(G-protein-coupled receptors)의 작용제 매개 불감성화에 참여하고, 호르몬, 신경전달물질, 감각 신호와 같은 자극에 대한 세포 반응의 특이적 억제를 유발하는 것으로 생각됩니다. 아레스틴 베타 1은 세포질 단백질이며, 베타-아드레날린 수용체 키나아제(BARK) 매개 베타-아드레날린 수용체 불감성화에서 보조 인자로 작용합니다. 중추 신경계 외에, 말초 혈액 백혈구에서 높은 수준으로 발현되며, 따라서 BARK/베타-아레스틴 시스템은 수용체 매개 면역 기능 조절에 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 여겨집니다. 아레스틴 베타 1의 다양한 아이소폼을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체가 기술된 바 있습니다.
