아쿠아포린은 물 선택성 막 채널의 한 계열입니다. 이 유전자는 아쿠아글리세로포린이라 불리는 아쿠아포린의 하위 집합 구성원을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 다양한 종류의 비전하 용질 통과를 허용하며, 또한 요소 수송과 삼투압 물 투과성을 촉진합니다. 이 단백질은 간 조직에서 글리세롤 흡수에 관여할 수도 있습니다. 암호화된 단백질은 면역 반응 및 살균 활성과 같은 특수 백혈구 기능에도 관여할 수 있습니다. 대체 스플라이싱은 여러 전사체 변이체를 생성합니다.
