유전자 개요
이 유전자는 라세마제(racemase)를 암호화하며, 인코딩된 효소는 프리스타노일-CoA(pristanoyl-CoA) 및 C27-담즙 아실-CoA(C27-bile acyl-CoA)를 (R)-입체이성질체와 (S)-입체이성질체 간에 상호전환한다. (S)-입체이성질체로의 전환은 퍼옥시솜 베타-산화(peroxisomal beta-oxidation)에 의한 이들 기질의 분해에 필수적이며, 해당 단백질은 미토콘드리아(mitochondria)와 퍼옥시솜(peroxisome) 양쪽에 모두 국재화된다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 담즙산 합성 결함으로 인한 성인 발병 감각운동신경병증(adult-onset sensorimotor neuropathy), 색소망막병증(pigmentary retinopathy), 부신척수신경병증(adrenomyeloneuropathy)과 연관될 수 있으며, 선택적 접합(alternative splicing) 전사체 변이체 및 상류 인접 유전자 C1QTNF3와의 통독 전사(read-through transcription)도 보고되어 있다.
