이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 10-포르밀테트라하이드로폴레이트, 니코틴아마이드 아데닌 디뉴클레오타이드 포스페이트(NADP+), 물을 테트라하이드로폴레이트, NADPH, 이산화탄소로 전환하는 반응을 촉매한다. 이 단백질은 알데하이드 탈수소효소(aldehyde dehydrogenase) 계열에 속한다. 이 유전자의 기능 상실 또는 발현 감소는 세포자멸사(apoptosis) 감소, 세포 이동성 증가, 암(cancer) 진행과 관련이 있다.
