유전자 개요
ALDH1A1이 암호화하는 단백질은 알데하이드 탈수소효소(aldehyde dehydrogenase) 계열에 속하며, 알코올 대사의 주요 경로에서 알코올 탈수소효소(alcohol dehydrogenase) 다음 단계로 작용한다. 간에는 서로 다른 유전자가 암호화하는 세포질성 및 미토콘드리아성 동질효소(isozyme) 두 가지가 존재하는데, ALDH1A1은 이 중 세포질성 동질효소를 암호화한다. 생쥐 연구에서는 레티놀 대사(retinol metabolism)에서의 역할을 통해 고지방 식이에 대한 대사 반응 조절에도 관여할 수 있음이 제시되었다.
