이 유전자는 단백질 키나아제 A (PKA)의 RI/RII 소단위에 대한 결합 도메인을 포함하는 스캐폴드 단백질인 A-키나아제 결합 단백질 계열의 구성원을 암호화한다. 이 A-키나아제 결합 단백질들은 PKA와 다른 신호 분자들을 특정 세포 내 위치로 모집한다. 이 유전자는 PKA의 RII 알파 소단위에 결합하는 핵 A-키나아제 결합 단백질을 암호화하며, PKA와 응축 복합체(condensin complex)를 염색질(chromatin)로 표적화함으로써 유사분열(mitosis) 중 염색질 응축에 역할을 할 수 있다. 이 유전자의 유사 위유전자(pseudogene)는 9번 염색체의 단완에 위치한다.
