유전자 개요

AFP 유전자는 태아기 동안 난황낭(yolk sac)과 간에서 생성되는 주요 혈장 단백질인 알파태아단백질(alpha-fetoprotein)을 암호화한다. 성인에서의 발현은 흔히 간세포암종(hepatocarcinoma)이나 기형종(teratoma)과 연관되며, 진행성 위암(gastric cancer)의 관리에서 예후 인자로서 가치를 지닌다. 다만 알파태아단백질의 유전성 지속(hereditary persistence)은 뚜렷한 병리 소견이 없는 사람에서도 나타날 수 있다.
